A royal blue Banarsi silk saree with small peacock (mor) butis in silver-cream zari set in orderly rows across the body — each bird crisply drawn, its tail folded, so the motif reads as a fine, even scatter from a distance.
The border is a floral creeper in zari with blue and wine accents, finished with a wine-purple selvedge. The anchal opens into a dense zari jaal of paisley and floral work over the blue ground.
A clean, classic combination — bright blue, pale zari and a touch of wine at the edge.
Styling Note
A Nivi or Bengali drape both suit this saree; the pallu jaal is worth showing open. Pair with silver or white-metal jewellery, and a wine or plum blouse to match the selvedge — or royal blue for a single-colour look.
Caring for Your Handloom
A handloom saree is not just worn — it is preserved, rested, and cared for over time.
After wearing, allow the saree to settle gently. Dry clean only, so the weave, colour, and zari remain protected. When storing, wrap it in a soft muslin cloth and keep it in a dry place. Zari is delicate and responds to changes in weather; the muslin helps the textile breathe while keeping the weave stable.
Avoid spraying perfume directly onto the saree, as fragrance and alcohol can affect the fabric and zari. Every few months, open it out and let it air naturally for a while — a small ritual that allows the weave to breathe and helps the saree stay beautiful for years.
