A handwoven Banarasi Katan silk saree in ivory, drawn over with a Kimkhab Jangla — scrolling vines and florals carried unbroken across the full body of the drape. The motifs, anchal and border are all woven in zari — the jaal moves like vine and bloom across the cloth, and a wide Banarasi border traces the drape on every edge. Handwoven in Varanasi on a traditional pit loom.

Kimkhab is the high register of Banarasi metallic weave — a continuous, densely worked field of zari that earns its name. Layered with Kadhua, every flower in the jaal is built into the cloth thread by thread, never embroidered after. The luxury is in the sheer concentration of patience the textile holds — months of pit-loom work, no two pieces emerging identical.

Styling Note

Drapes beautifully Nivi or Lehenga style with the pallu fanned wide so the jaal reads. Pair with polki or classic gold, a contrast emerald or deep-rose raw-silk blouse, and minimal accessories to let the floral density carry.

Caring for Your Handloom

A handloom saree is not just worn — it is preserved, rested, and cared for over time.

After wearing, allow the saree to settle gently. Dry clean only, so the weave, colour, and zari remain protected. When storing, wrap it in a soft muslin cloth and keep it in a dry place. Zari is delicate and responds to changes in weather; the muslin helps the textile breathe while keeping the weave stable.

Avoid spraying perfume directly onto the saree, as fragrance and alcohol can affect the fabric and zari. Every few months, open it out and let it air naturally for a while — a small ritual that allows the weave to breathe and helps the saree stay beautiful for years.
