A handwoven Banarasi Katan silk saree in green do rukhi, the body covered in densely packed Tanchoi motifs in resham — the silk weft pattern reading cleanly on both faces of the cloth. The motifs, anchal and border are all woven in zari, with the do rukhi finish letting the saree be worn either way, the pattern holding on both surfaces. Handwoven in Varanasi on a traditional pit loom.
Do rukhi is a particular Banarasi discipline — the weave is built so that both faces of the cloth are wearable, which means there can be no extra floats hidden on the back. Every weft is set with intention. Tanchoi makes this possible: the pattern is carried entirely by warp and weft, with no shortcuts. The result is a saree that is, in effect, two finished textiles in one length.
Styling Note
Drape in a Nivi style with the pallu pinned at the shoulder, or flip the drape to wear the alternate face — the saree reads cleanly either way. Pair with kundan, polki or antique-gold — small jhumkas with a slim haar, or a chand-bali. A tonal green or contrasting old-gold raw-silk blouse both work.

Caring for Your Handloom
A handloom saree is not just worn — it is preserved, rested, and cared for over time.
After wearing, allow the saree to settle gently. Dry clean only, so the weave, colour, and zari remain protected. When storing, wrap it in a soft muslin cloth and keep it in a dry place. Zari is delicate and responds to changes in weather; the muslin helps the textile breathe while keeping the weave stable.
Avoid spraying perfume directly onto the saree, as fragrance and alcohol can affect the fabric and zari. Every few months, open it out and let it air naturally for a while — a small ritual that allows the weave to breathe and helps the saree stay beautiful for years.
