A handwoven Katan silk Banarasi saree in grey, with phool — flowering — motifs drawn in a continuous Jangla layout over the body. The motifs, anchal and border are all woven in zari, with an intricate Banarasi border framing the drape and an anchor motif on the anchal in keeping with the body. Handwoven in Varanasi on a traditional pit loom.
Grey is one of the rarer Banarasi grounds — the colour lets the gold of the zari read with unusual clarity, but it also asks the weaver to be exact, since every motif sits against a quiet ground that offers nowhere to hide. The Kadhua placement on this saree is what makes the field hold together as one.
Styling Note
A Nivi drape lets the phool Jangla unfold along the body. Style with kundan or polki against the cool grey, and let the antique-gold work lead. A tonal grey silk blouse holds the drape together; a contrast deep maroon blouse warms it.

Caring for Your Handloom
A handloom saree is not just worn — it is preserved, rested, and cared for over time.
After wearing, allow the saree to settle gently. Dry clean only, so the weave, colour, and zari remain protected. When storing, wrap it in a soft muslin cloth and keep it in a dry place. Zari is delicate and responds to changes in weather; the muslin helps the textile breathe while keeping the weave stable.
Avoid spraying perfume directly onto the saree, as fragrance and alcohol can affect the fabric and zari. Every few months, open it out and let it air naturally for a while — a small ritual that allows the weave to breathe and helps the saree stay beautiful for years.
