A handwoven Banarasi pure Katan silk saree in peach, the field set with meenadar motifs — small flowers worked in coloured silk thread alongside the zari, giving the drape a softly painted quality. The motifs, anchal and border are all woven in zari, the meena and zari held together along the body and into the anchal, with an intricate Banarasi border framing the drape. Handwoven in Varanasi on a traditional pit loom.
Meenadar is a Banarasi technique that asks for two crafts at once — the loom carries both the zari weft and an additional coloured silk weft, and the weaver must keep them in register motif by motif. That double discipline is what gives a meenadar saree its painterly quality and is also why it is so rare to find one woven cleanly across an entire body.
Styling Note
Drape in a Nivi style with the pallu pinned at the shoulder to let the meena reading travel down the body, or in a Bengali drape for an even softer line. Pair with kundan or polki — small jhumkas with a slim choker, or a chand-bali. A tonal peach raw-silk blouse, or a contrasting old-gold tissue blouse, both finish the drape.

Caring for Your Handloom
A handloom saree is not just worn — it is preserved, rested, and cared for over time.
After wearing, allow the saree to settle gently. Dry clean only, so the weave, colour, and zari remain protected. When storing, wrap it in a soft muslin cloth and keep it in a dry place. Zari is delicate and responds to changes in weather; the muslin helps the textile breathe while keeping the weave stable.
Avoid spraying perfume directly onto the saree, as fragrance and alcohol can affect the fabric and zari. Every few months, open it out and let it air naturally for a while — a small ritual that allows the weave to breathe and helps the saree stay beautiful for years.
