A handwoven Katan silk Banarasi saree in pink, with densely packed Tanchoi motifs setting the rhythm of the body and a tonal cast of pink that shifts toward purple as the light moves across it. The motifs, anchal and border are all woven in zari, with resham worked into the ground to give the surface its quiet shine. Handwoven in Varanasi on a traditional pit loom.
Tanchoi is among the oldest satin-faced Banarasi weaves — the pattern is carried entirely by warp and weft, with no extra weft floats. The back of a true Tanchoi is almost as clean as the front, and that finish is itself a measure of the weaver's discipline at the loom.
Styling Note
A Nivi drape sits best on this Tanchoi ground; the pleats fall cleanly because the fabric is smooth-faced. Style with chand bali or jhumkis in antique gold, and a tonal pink silk blouse — or a deeper aubergine — to bring out the dual cast of the ground.

Caring for Your Handloom
A handloom saree is not just worn — it is preserved, rested, and cared for over time.
After wearing, allow the saree to settle gently. Dry clean only, so the weave, colour, and zari remain protected. When storing, wrap it in a soft muslin cloth and keep it in a dry place. Zari is delicate and responds to changes in weather; the muslin helps the textile breathe while keeping the weave stable.
Avoid spraying perfume directly onto the saree, as fragrance and alcohol can affect the fabric and zari. Every few months, open it out and let it air naturally for a while — a small ritual that allows the weave to breathe and helps the saree stay beautiful for years.
