A handwoven Banarasi Georgette silk saree in purple, the body covered in densely packed Tanchoi motifs that read evenly across the drape. The motifs, anchal and border are all woven in zari, the border framing the drape in steady detail and the anchal carrying the motif vocabulary forward with an anchor closure. Handwoven in Varanasi on a traditional pit loom.
Tanchoi on Georgette is one of the quieter luxuries of Banaras — the satin weave gives the cloth its low gloss and density, while the Georgette base lends the drape an effortless fall on the body. There are no extra floats running behind: the pattern lives entirely in the warp and weft, which is why the back of a true Tanchoi is almost as clean as the front.
Styling Note
Drape in a Nivi style with the pallu pinned at the shoulder to let the Tanchoi run uninterrupted, or in a Bengali drape to bring the anchal forward over both shoulders. Pair with kundan, polki or antique-gold jewellery — jhumkas, a chand-bali, a slim haar. A tonal purple or contrasting silver-grey raw-silk blouse finishes the look.

Caring for Your Handloom
A handloom saree is not just worn — it is preserved, rested, and cared for over time.
After wearing, allow the saree to settle gently. Dry clean only, so the weave, colour, and zari remain protected. When storing, wrap it in a soft muslin cloth and keep it in a dry place. Zari is delicate and responds to changes in weather; the muslin helps the textile breathe while keeping the weave stable.
Avoid spraying perfume directly onto the saree, as fragrance and alcohol can affect the fabric and zari. Every few months, open it out and let it air naturally for a while — a small ritual that allows the weave to breathe and helps the saree stay beautiful for years.
