Yellow Tanchoi Pure Silk Handloom Banarasi

A handwoven Banarasi Katan silk length in yellow, the field carrying densely packed Tanchoi motifs across the running cloth — a smooth-faced ground patterned closely by warp and weft. The motifs are all woven in zari, the pattern holding its register across the metre. Handwoven in Varanasi on a traditional pit loom.

Tanchoi is famous for its discipline: the design is carried entirely by warp and weft, with no extra floats running behind. The back of a true Tanchoi is almost as clean as the front, which is what gives the textile its quiet density and that low, lustrous sheen.

Styling Note

Tailor as a fitted kurta, a structured blouse or a sharara panel — the yellow carries equally well as a quiet base or as a statement piece. Style with kundan, polki or antique-gold; the warm Tanchoi sheen sits beautifully against gold tones.

Caring for Your Handloom

A handloom thaan is not just worn — it is preserved, rested, and cared for over time.

After wearing, allow the thaan to settle gently. Dry clean only, so the weave, colour, and zari remain protected. When storing, wrap it in a soft muslin cloth and keep it in a dry place. Zari is delicate and responds to changes in weather; the muslin helps the textile breathe while keeping the weave stable.

Avoid spraying perfume directly onto the thaan, as fragrance and alcohol can affect the fabric and zari. Every few months, open it out and let it air naturally for a while — a small ritual that allows the weave to breathe and helps the thaan stay beautiful for years.
