A emerald green Banarasi saree in pure silk, carrying Kadhua butti woven in both gold and silver zari, scattered evenly across the field. The motifs, anchal and border are all woven in zari — the border runs the length of the drape with a steady, unbroken rhythm. Handwoven in Varanasi on a traditional pit loom.
Kadhua weaving forces the loom to slow down — each motif demands its own shuttle pass, and the weaver pauses between butti to switch threads. A composition that reads simply across the body is, in fact, a sum of hundreds of small disciplined acts at the pit loom. That is why no two Kadhua sarees emerge identical, and why the textile carries the weight of the time it took to make.
The drape carries a second weave: Ektara. Where Kadhua gives the piece its precision, Ektara gives it its hand — softer, flowier, with a deeper gloss and an easier hand to drape.
Styling Note
A Nivi drape carries this composition best — the pallu placed long over the shoulder so the border reads in full down the front. Pair with polki, kundan or antique gold jewellery to echo the zari, and a tonal emerald raw silk or contrast antique-gold tissue blouse to keep the focus on the weave.

Caring for Your Handloom
A handloom saree is not just worn — it is preserved, rested, and cared for over time.
After wearing, allow the saree to settle gently. Dry clean only, so the weave, colour, and zari remain protected. When storing, wrap it in a soft muslin cloth and keep it in a dry place. Zari is delicate and responds to changes in weather; the muslin helps the textile breathe while keeping the weave stable.
Avoid spraying perfume directly onto the saree, as fragrance and alcohol can affect the fabric and zari. Every few months, open it out and let it air naturally for a while — a small ritual that allows the weave to breathe and helps the saree stay beautiful for years.
