A handwoven pure Katan silk Banarasi saree in peacock blue, with Alfi motifs — small floral buttis outlined in resham and zari — drawn over the body thread by thread. The motifs, anchal and border are all woven in zari, with the wide Banarasi border framing the drape on every edge and an anchor motif on the anchal in keeping with the body. Handwoven in Varanasi on a traditional pit loom.
Alfi is among the most patient of the Kadhua techniques — each butti is twice-outlined, once in resham and once in zari, before the next is set on the loom. The pattern reads close to embroidery, but every stitch is part of the weave itself, which is what gives the textile its weight and its quiet glow.
Styling Note
A Nivi drape lets the dense Alfi field unfold cleanly across the body. Style with kundan or polki in antique gold, or temple jewellery for a more traditional pairing. A tonal teal silk blouse, or an ivory raw-silk blouse for contrast, brings the peacock blue forward.

Caring for Your Handloom
A handloom saree is not just worn — it is preserved, rested, and cared for over time.
After wearing, allow the saree to settle gently. Dry clean only, so the weave, colour, and zari remain protected. When storing, wrap it in a soft muslin cloth and keep it in a dry place. Zari is delicate and responds to changes in weather; the muslin helps the textile breathe while keeping the weave stable.
Avoid spraying perfume directly onto the saree, as fragrance and alcohol can affect the fabric and zari. Every few months, open it out and let it air naturally for a while — a small ritual that allows the weave to breathe and helps the saree stay beautiful for years.
