A richly worked Banarasi Tanchoi silk saree in mustard yellow and deep wine, the body drawn over with a continuous jaal of butterflies and blossoms that shifts through the cloth as the wine threads recede and the gold lifts in the light. The motifs, anchal and border are all woven in zari — the pallu opens into a wide cream-gold zari panel, set off by a slim gold border that runs along the lower hem and frames the drape. Handwoven in Varanasi on a traditional pit loom.
Tanchoi is among the most demanding techniques on the Banaras loom: the figuring is carried entirely in the weave, with the extra wefts floated and locked into the ground so the surface stays smooth and lustrous through every motif. A jaal of butterflies woven this closely is built blossom by blossom over many loom hours — the intricacy and the patience behind it are precisely what make a Tanchoi Banarasi a luxury textile, and why no two pieces leave the loom quite alike.
Styling Note
Wears beautifully in the Nivi drape with the pallu pleated wide so the cream-gold zari panel reads as the focal point, or in the Gujarati style to bring the pallu to the front. Pair with antique-gold or temple jewellery, and choose a tonal mustard or a deep wine raw-silk blouse to echo the two-tone ground.

Caring for Your Handloom
A handloom saree is not just worn — it is preserved, rested, and cared for over time.
After wearing, allow the saree to settle gently. Dry clean only, so the weave, colour, and zari remain protected. When storing, wrap it in a soft muslin cloth and keep it in a dry place. Zari is delicate and responds to changes in weather; the muslin helps the textile breathe while keeping the weave stable.
Avoid spraying perfume directly onto the saree, as fragrance and alcohol can affect the fabric and zari. Every few months, open it out and let it air naturally for a while — a small ritual that allows the weave to breathe and helps the saree stay beautiful for years.
