Red Kimkhab Pure Silk Banarasi Handloom Saree
A classic red Banarsi katan silk saree covered in a dense meenakari floral jaal — rounded blooms and fine leaves in rose, green, yellow and ivory, all travelling on a slim zari vine that fills the body edge to edge. The motifs, anchal and border are all woven in zari, with the flowers shaded in coloured meena against the red ground. Handwoven in Varanasi on a traditional pit loom.
This is jamewar-style meena work: the colour is carried into the weave flower by flower, so the jaal reads like a painted garden yet is entirely woven. The closeness of the blooms and the number of meena shades are what make a piece like this slow to weave and rich to look at — the design never repeats cleanly from one span to the next.
A scalloped zari border and a banded zari pallu finish the drape, and the katan silk gives it a full, even fall.
Styling Note
Drape in a Nivi so the meena jaal spreads across the pleats and pallu. Pair with gold, kundan or temple jewellery and jhumkas; a red, gold or ivory blouse all sit well with the red ground.

Caring for Your Handloom
A handloom saree is not just worn — it is preserved, rested, and cared for over time.
After wearing, allow the saree to settle gently. Dry clean only, so the weave, colour, and zari remain protected. When storing, wrap it in a soft muslin cloth and keep it in a dry place. Zari is delicate and responds to changes in weather; the muslin helps the textile breathe while keeping the weave stable.
Avoid spraying perfume directly onto the saree, as fragrance and alcohol can affect the fabric and zari. Every few months, open it out and let it air naturally for a while — a small ritual that allows the weave to breathe and helps the saree stay beautiful for years.
