Ivory Banarsi Silk Potli Bag
A handwoven Banarasi silk potli in ivory, paced by hand on the same traditional pit looms that hold the larger drapes. The motifs, anchal and border are all woven in zari — the surface carries a quiet zari motif scatter that lifts the ivory ground. Handwoven in Varanasi on a traditional pit loom.
The luxury of a Banarasi potli lies in its disproportion — the same placement and zari care that goes into a six-metre saree, compressed into an object you can carry in your hand. The loom does not weave smaller-scale work faster; it only ever weaves at the pace the cloth demands.
Styling Note
Carry alongside formal silk drapes; the ivory tone reads well with classic gold or polki jewellery. Style with a tonal blouse and let the potli sit as a finishing detail.

Caring for Your Handloom
A handloom potli is not just carried — it is preserved, rested, and cared for over time.
After wearing, allow the potli to settle gently. Dry clean only, so the weave, colour, and zari remain protected. When storing, wrap it in a soft muslin cloth and keep it in a dry place. Zari is delicate and responds to changes in weather; the muslin helps the textile breathe while keeping the weave stable.
Avoid spraying perfume directly onto the potli, as fragrance and alcohol can affect the fabric and zari. Every few months, open it out and let it air naturally for a while — a small ritual that allows the weave to breathe and helps the potli stay beautiful for years.
