A handwoven Banarasi pure Katan silk saree in magenta, the field set with meenadar motifs — small florals worked in coloured silk thread alongside the zari, giving the drape a softly painted register against the warm ground. The motifs, anchal and border are all woven in zari, the meena and zari sitting together across the body and into the anchal, which is closed with an anchor motif. Handwoven in Varanasi on a traditional pit loom.
Meenadar is one of Banaras's older luxuries — two wefts running on the same loom, one gold and one coloured silk, the weaver keeping them in register motif by motif. That double discipline is what gives meenadar its painterly quality, and it is also why a clean meenadar body is so rare. The detail is built into the cloth; nothing is laid on after.
Styling Note
Drape in a Nivi style for vertical fall, or in a Bengali drape to bring the anchal forward over both shoulders. Pair with kundan or polki — small jhumkas with a slim choker, a polki haar, or a chand-bali. A tonal magenta or contrasting bottle-green raw-silk blouse both finish the drape.

Caring for Your Handloom
A handloom saree is not just worn — it is preserved, rested, and cared for over time.
After wearing, allow the saree to settle gently. Dry clean only, so the weave, colour, and zari remain protected. When storing, wrap it in a soft muslin cloth and keep it in a dry place. Zari is delicate and responds to changes in weather; the muslin helps the textile breathe while keeping the weave stable.
Avoid spraying perfume directly onto the saree, as fragrance and alcohol can affect the fabric and zari. Every few months, open it out and let it air naturally for a while — a small ritual that allows the weave to breathe and helps the saree stay beautiful for years.
