A handwoven pure Katan silk Banarasi saree in olive green, with meenakari motifs in coloured silk and zari drawn over the body thread by thread. The motifs, anchal and border are all woven in zari, the Meenadar enamel layered alongside the gold and the anchal carrying an anchor motif in keeping with the body. Handwoven in Varanasi on a traditional pit loom.
Meenadar work is the closest a Banarasi weave comes to enamelling — each motif outlined first in zari, then filled with coloured silk weft in a separate pass at the loom. The two-pass logic doubles the weaving time, and the placement discipline is what makes the finished piece read as jewel-bright.
Styling Note
A Nivi drape lets the Meenadar field unfold along the body. Style with antique gold or kundan; the olive ground holds warm metals beautifully. A tonal olive silk blouse, or a contrast deep wine blouse, keeps the coloured motifs leading the eye.

Caring for Your Handloom
A handloom saree is not just worn — it is preserved, rested, and cared for over time.
After wearing, allow the saree to settle gently. Dry clean only, so the weave, colour, and zari remain protected. When storing, wrap it in a soft muslin cloth and keep it in a dry place. Zari is delicate and responds to changes in weather; the muslin helps the textile breathe while keeping the weave stable.
Avoid spraying perfume directly onto the saree, as fragrance and alcohol can affect the fabric and zari. Every few months, open it out and let it air naturally for a while — a small ritual that allows the weave to breathe and helps the saree stay beautiful for years.
