Pink Meenadar Tanchoi Pure Silk Handloom Banarsi

A Banarasi fabric thaan in pink, drawn over with meenakari motifs in coloured silk that sit alongside zari across the field. The motifs, anchal and border are all woven in zari — the satin ground of the Tanchoi giving the colours an unusual depth and glow. Handwoven in Varanasi on a traditional pit loom.

Tanchoi gives the cloth its dense, satin-faced ground, and Meenadar enamels each motif in coloured silk alongside the zari. The two together are among the most jewel-like compositions in Banarasi weaving — there are no extra floats at the back, every colour is carried in the warp and weft, and the weave time is what makes a piece like this rare.

Styling Note

Cut into a blouse, a panelled lehenga, a kurta or a structured jacket — the satin face of the Tanchoi takes a clean line beautifully. Pair finished pieces with antique-gold or polki jewellery.

Caring for Your Handloom

A handloom fabric is not just worn — it is preserved, rested, and cared for over time.

After wearing, allow the fabric to settle gently. Dry clean only, so the weave, colour, and zari remain protected. When storing, wrap it in a soft muslin cloth and keep it in a dry place. Zari is delicate and responds to changes in weather; the muslin helps the textile breathe while keeping the weave stable.

Avoid spraying perfume directly onto the fabric, as fragrance and alcohol can affect the fabric and zari. Every few months, open it out and let it air naturally for a while — a small ritual that allows the weave to breathe and helps the fabric stay beautiful for years.
