A handwoven Banarasi Katan silk saree in rich purple, with thread-by-thread Kadhua motifs setting the rhythm of the composition. The motifs, anchal and border are all woven in zari — an intricate Banarasi border frames the drape, finishing in an aanchal with an anchor motif and a Kuniya corner-motif that closes the saree with care. Handwoven in Varanasi on a traditional pit loom.
Rich purple carries gold zari with weight — the colour holds the metallic work without losing its own depth. The Kadhua tradition builds every motif into the cloth thread by thread, and the Kuniya corner-motif gives the pallu its anchor. Pieces of this composition routinely take weeks at the loom; the textile is a luxury because that time cannot be shortcut.
Styling Note
Drapes beautifully Nivi or Bengali style with the pallu fanned wide so the Kuniya corner reads cleanly. Pair with classic gold, polki, or a temple-style necklace; an ivory or contrast aubergine blouse anchors the purple.

Caring for Your Handloom
A handloom saree is not just worn — it is preserved, rested, and cared for over time.
After wearing, allow the saree to settle gently. Dry clean only, so the weave, colour, and zari remain protected. When storing, wrap it in a soft muslin cloth and keep it in a dry place. Zari is delicate and responds to changes in weather; the muslin helps the textile breathe while keeping the weave stable.
Avoid spraying perfume directly onto the saree, as fragrance and alcohol can affect the fabric and zari. Every few months, open it out and let it air naturally for a while — a small ritual that allows the weave to breathe and helps the saree stay beautiful for years.
