A sea-green Banarasi saree in Tissue silk with a contrasting pink Kadiyal border, drawn over with Meenadar motifs in coloured silk and zari. The motifs, anchal and border are all woven in zari — the Kadiyal border setting a clear colour change at the edges and the anchal carrying the same Meenadar in a fuller field. Handwoven in Varanasi on a traditional pit loom.
Tissue silk catches light differently from Katan — a finer sheen, a lighter hand — and on it the Kadiyal contrast border is an old, slow technique: two ground colours and a separate border colour joined at the selvedge by interlocked weft. Combined with Meenadar enamelling, the saree reads as multiple weaves placed cleanly into one piece, the kind of layered making no shortcut can replicate.
Styling Note
A Nivi drape with the anchal held long lets the Meenadar carry. Pair with polki or kundan jewellery and a deep-pink or sea-green raw-silk blouse to play with the Kadiyal contrast.

Caring for Your Handloom
A handloom saree is not just worn — it is preserved, rested, and cared for over time.
After wearing, allow the saree to settle gently. Dry clean only, so the weave, colour, and zari remain protected. When storing, wrap it in a soft muslin cloth and keep it in a dry place. Zari is delicate and responds to changes in weather; the muslin helps the textile breathe while keeping the weave stable.
Avoid spraying perfume directly onto the saree, as fragrance and alcohol can affect the fabric and zari. Every few months, open it out and let it air naturally for a while — a small ritual that allows the weave to breathe and helps the saree stay beautiful for years.
