A handwoven Katan silk Banarasi saree in sea green, drawn over with meenakari motifs in coloured silk and zari. The motifs, anchal and border are all woven in zari, each meenadar bloom built into the Kadhua weave with secondary colours threaded weft by weft. Handwoven in Varanasi on a traditional pit loom.
Meenadar is the Banarasi technique that colours the motif from inside the weave — no embroidery, no overlay, just secondary silk threads carried through the Kadhua at the right moment. The discipline is precise: the coloured weft must enter and leave the motif without leaving stray floats, which is why a true meenadar piece looks painted from the front and quietly orderly from the back.
Styling Note
Drapes beautifully in a Nivi style. Pair with antique-gold or polki jewellery and a contrast pink or gold raw-silk blouse to lift the sea green.

Caring for Your Handloom
A handloom saree is not just worn — it is preserved, rested, and cared for over time.
After wearing, allow the saree to settle gently. Dry clean only, so the weave, colour, and zari remain protected. When storing, wrap it in a soft muslin cloth and keep it in a dry place. Zari is delicate and responds to changes in weather; the muslin helps the textile breathe while keeping the weave stable.
Avoid spraying perfume directly onto the saree, as fragrance and alcohol can affect the fabric and zari. Every few months, open it out and let it air naturally for a while — a small ritual that allows the weave to breathe and helps the saree stay beautiful for years.
