A handwoven Banarasi Katan silk saree in deep bottle green, charmed by sona-rupa Kadhua motifs woven evenly across the body. The motifs, anchal and border are all woven in zari — an intricate floral border closes the body, with an elaborate design aanchal that finishes the pallu in equal weight. Handwoven in Varanasi on a traditional pit loom.
Sona-rupa pairs gold and silver zari in a single motif, giving each placement a depth no single-colour zari can match. The Kadhua tradition builds every motif thread by thread; on a deep green ground, the metallic work reads with extra clarity. Pieces like this take weeks at the loom — the textile is a luxury because the weaving time is what it is.
The Ektara weave gives this drape its hand — softer, flowier, with more gloss and an easier hand to drape than a pure Kadhua piece.
Styling Note
Drapes beautifully Nivi-style with the pallu fanned wide to let the sona-rupa work catch the light. Pair with old-gold or kundan and an ivory or contrast-coral blouse for warmth.

Caring for Your Handloom
A handloom saree is not just worn — it is preserved, rested, and cared for over time.
After wearing, allow the saree to settle gently. Dry clean only, so the weave, colour, and zari remain protected. When storing, wrap it in a soft muslin cloth and keep it in a dry place. Zari is delicate and responds to changes in weather; the muslin helps the textile breathe while keeping the weave stable.
Avoid spraying perfume directly onto the saree, as fragrance and alcohol can affect the fabric and zari. Every few months, open it out and let it air naturally for a while — a small ritual that allows the weave to breathe and helps the saree stay beautiful for years.
