A handwoven Banarasi Katan silk saree in pista green and pink, woven with delicate butterfly motifs in resham silk threads in the Tanchoi tradition. The motifs, anchal and border are all woven in zari — the butterflies dance across the body in coloured silk against the satin ground, finishing in a pallu of equal weight. Handwoven in Varanasi on a traditional pit loom.
Tanchoi is the satin-faced Banarasi weave celebrated for its smooth-faced ground and densely packed motif work — every butterfly here is built into the cloth by warp and weft alone, with no extra weft floats. Layered with resham silk threads in fine colour gradations, the result is a textile where every motif sits flush with the surface but reads in three colours at once.
Styling Note
Drapes beautifully Nivi-style with the pallu pleated wide to show the butterflies clean. Pair with polki or a temple-style necklace and a tonal pista or contrast-pink blouse to mirror the saree's own duality.

Caring for Your Handloom
A handloom saree is not just worn — it is preserved, rested, and cared for over time.
After wearing, allow the saree to settle gently. Dry clean only, so the weave, colour, and zari remain protected. When storing, wrap it in a soft muslin cloth and keep it in a dry place. Zari is delicate and responds to changes in weather; the muslin helps the textile breathe while keeping the weave stable.
Avoid spraying perfume directly onto the saree, as fragrance and alcohol can affect the fabric and zari. Every few months, open it out and let it air naturally for a while — a small ritual that allows the weave to breathe and helps the saree stay beautiful for years.
