A regal handwoven Banarasi kora silk saree in deep royal purple, edged by a thin magenta selvedge. Delicate floral buti motifs in cream and gold are scattered evenly across the body. The motifs, anchal and border are all woven in zari — the pallu carries a graceful procession of paisley (kairi) motifs, framed by a finely woven floral-and-diamond border that runs the length of the saree. Handwoven in Varanasi on a traditional pit loom.
The Kadhua tradition is what makes the buti and paisley feel inseparable from the cloth — every motif is built into the weave thread by thread, with its own weft and its own loom hour. The pallu alone, with its kairi procession, is days of work on its own.
Styling Note
Best draped Nivi-style with the pallu pleated wide so the paisley pallu reads as the focal point. Pair with old-gold or kundan, an emerald-toned blouse for contrast, or a tonal lavender to keep the palette close.
Caring for Your Handloom
A handloom saree is not just worn — it is preserved, rested, and cared for over time.
After wearing, allow the saree to settle gently. Dry clean only, so the weave, colour, and zari remain protected. When storing, wrap it in a soft muslin cloth and keep it in a dry place. Zari is delicate and responds to changes in weather; the muslin helps the textile breathe while keeping the weave stable.
Avoid spraying perfume directly onto the saree, as fragrance and alcohol can affect the fabric and zari. Every few months, open it out and let it air naturally for a while — a small ritual that allows the weave to breathe and helps the saree stay beautiful for years.
