A Munga silk Banarasi saree in a soft, mineral grey, with Kadhua motifs placed thread by thread across the body and a Banarasi border framing the drape. The anchal carries an anchor composition that follows the language of the body. The motifs, anchal and border are all woven in zari — the border and anchal are worked in zari and read clearly against the grey ground. Handwoven in Varanasi on a traditional pit loom.
Kadhua places each butti as a discrete event on the loom — its own weft, its own discipline, its own moment. Weeks of placement go into a single drape, and that slow accumulation is what gives Banarasi its quiet, unhurried luxury.
Styling Note
Drape in a classic Nivi with the anchal pleated softly over the shoulder. Pair with polki or kundan in old-gold settings, and choose a blouse in dove grey, smoke or ivory raw silk to keep the weave the focus.
Caring for Your Handloom
A handloom saree is not just worn — it is preserved, rested, and cared for over time.
After wearing, allow the saree to settle gently. Dry clean only, so the weave, colour, and zari remain protected. When storing, wrap it in a soft muslin cloth and keep it in a dry place. Zari is delicate and responds to changes in weather; the muslin helps the textile breathe while keeping the weave stable.
Avoid spraying perfume directly onto the saree, as fragrance and alcohol can affect the fabric and zari. Every few months, open it out and let it air naturally for a while — a small ritual that allows the weave to breathe and helps the saree stay beautiful for years.
