A Katan silk Banarasi saree in a refined pink, with Kadhua motifs placed thread by thread across the body. The border frames the drape and the anchal carries an anchor composition consistent with the body. The motifs, anchal and border are all woven in zari — held neatly within the weave rather than added after. Handwoven in Varanasi on a traditional pit loom.
The motif placement here is deliberate; nothing is added on. The weaver works the figure into the textile thread by thread, building the composition row by row at the loom. That patience is the textile's luxury — and the reason a Banarasi like this is collected rather than consumed.
Styling Note
Drape Nivi-style with the anchal soft over the shoulder. Pair with antique-gold studs or a single chand bali; a blouse in deeper rose, blush or ivory raw silk keeps the weave the focus.
Caring for Your Handloom
A handloom saree is not just worn — it is preserved, rested, and cared for over time.
After wearing, allow the saree to settle gently. Dry clean only, so the weave, colour, and zari remain protected. When storing, wrap it in a soft muslin cloth and keep it in a dry place. Zari is delicate and responds to changes in weather; the muslin helps the textile breathe while keeping the weave stable.
Avoid spraying perfume directly onto the saree, as fragrance and alcohol can affect the fabric and zari. Every few months, open it out and let it air naturally for a while — a small ritual that allows the weave to breathe and helps the saree stay beautiful for years.
