A handwoven Banarasi Munga silk saree in luminous yellow, adorned with phool motifs woven close across the body in gold and silver zari. The motifs, anchal and border are all woven in zari — an intricate zari border and elaborate aanchal frame the saree on every edge. Handwoven in Varanasi on a traditional pit loom.
Munga silk gives Banarasi a natural, deep-gold lustre that no dyed silk can replicate — the yarn itself carries the glow. Layered with Kadhua, the gold and silver phool work sits within the warm body of the textile, every flower placed thread by thread. The luxury of Munga Kadhua lies in this marriage of yarn and patience.
Styling Note
Drapes beautifully Nivi or Gujarati style. Pair with antique-gold jewellery — a temple-style necklace or a single statement chand bali — and a tonal mustard or deep maroon blouse to anchor the warmth.
Caring for Your Handloom
A handloom saree is not just worn — it is preserved, rested, and cared for over time.
After wearing, allow the saree to settle gently. Dry clean only, so the weave, colour, and zari remain protected. When storing, wrap it in a soft muslin cloth and keep it in a dry place. Zari is delicate and responds to changes in weather; the muslin helps the textile breathe while keeping the weave stable.
Avoid spraying perfume directly onto the saree, as fragrance and alcohol can affect the fabric and zari. Every few months, open it out and let it air naturally for a while — a small ritual that allows the weave to breathe and helps the saree stay beautiful for years.
