A Banarasi saree in pink with deep orange tonality, worked in Katan silk with butterfly motifs in resham carried across a densely packed Tanchoi ground. The wing forms sit cleanly within the satin field, repeating without ever feeling busy. The motifs, anchal and border are all woven in zari — and the resham butterflies hold their colour alongside the zari work. Handwoven in Varanasi on a traditional pit loom.
Tanchoi gives the textile its satin-faced ground and its dense, jewel-like motif work; the pattern is built into the cloth thread by thread rather than added on. The discipline shows in the way the drape lies — quiet, glossy, evenly worked from selvedge to selvedge.
Styling Note
Drape Nivi-style and let the wings stay visible across the body. Pair with antique-gold or kundan; a blouse in pink, coral or oxidised gold raw silk carries the resham work forward.

Caring for Your Handloom
A handloom saree is not just worn — it is preserved, rested, and cared for over time.
After wearing, allow the saree to settle gently. Dry clean only, so the weave, colour, and zari remain protected. When storing, wrap it in a soft muslin cloth and keep it in a dry place. Zari is delicate and responds to changes in weather; the muslin helps the textile breathe while keeping the weave stable.
Avoid spraying perfume directly onto the saree, as fragrance and alcohol can affect the fabric and zari. Every few months, open it out and let it air naturally for a while — a small ritual that allows the weave to breathe and helps the saree stay beautiful for years.
