A handwoven Banarasi pure Katan silk dupatta in purple, the field carrying thread-by-thread leaf motifs in zari, each one held in clean placement across the drape. The motifs, anchal and border are all woven in zari, with an intricate Banarasi border framing the body of the dupatta. Handwoven in Varanasi on a traditional pit loom.

Even on a dupatta — half the length of a saree — Kadhua asks the same loom hours per motif. The leaves are woven in one by one, not floated across, which is why the back of the textile stays almost as clean as the front. The patience of that build is what gives Banarasi its quiet authority.

Styling Note

Drape over a tonal kurta or a lehenga set, with the dupatta pinned at the shoulder and pulled across to let the border read along the front. Pair with antique-gold or polki — small jhumkas, a slim choker, a simple maang tikka. The purple holds well against ivory, gold and deep wine tones.

Caring for Your Handloom

A handloom dupatta is not just worn — it is preserved, rested, and cared for over time.

After wearing, allow the dupatta to settle gently. Dry clean only, so the weave, colour, and zari remain protected. When storing, wrap it in a soft muslin cloth and keep it in a dry place. Zari is delicate and responds to changes in weather; the muslin helps the textile breathe while keeping the weave stable.

Avoid spraying perfume directly onto the dupatta, as fragrance and alcohol can affect the fabric and zari. Every few months, open it out and let it air naturally for a while — a small ritual that allows the weave to breathe and helps the dupatta stay beautiful for years.
