A handwoven pure silk Banarasi saree in deep lilac, with a Shikargah composition of scrolling vines, florals and forest motifs drawn over the body in a continuous Jangla layout. The motifs, anchal and border are all woven in zari, with the anchal carrying an anchor motif in keeping with the field. Handwoven in Varanasi on a traditional pit loom.
Shikargah compositions are among the most demanding in the Banarasi tradition — figures, vines and florals all rendered at once, the loom set in advance for the entire continuous field. The weaver works without margin for correction, which is precisely why each piece carries a year's worth of patience in its weave.
Styling Note
Drape in the classic Nivi style to let the Shikargah field read across the body. Style with kundan or polki — the cooler stones pair well with lilac. A tonal lilac silk blouse, or a deeper aubergine blouse for contrast, keeps the focus on the weave.

Caring for Your Handloom
A handloom saree is not just worn — it is preserved, rested, and cared for over time.
After wearing, allow the saree to settle gently. Dry clean only, so the weave, colour, and zari remain protected. When storing, wrap it in a soft muslin cloth and keep it in a dry place. Zari is delicate and responds to changes in weather; the muslin helps the textile breathe while keeping the weave stable.
Avoid spraying perfume directly onto the saree, as fragrance and alcohol can affect the fabric and zari. Every few months, open it out and let it air naturally for a while — a small ritual that allows the weave to breathe and helps the saree stay beautiful for years.
