A handwoven Banarasi Katan silk saree in soft pink and lilac, drawn over with butterfly motifs in densely packed Tanchoi work across the body. The motifs, anchal and border are all woven in zari — the satin-faced ground holds the resham detailing close, with the butterflies rising in subtle relief. Handwoven in Varanasi on a traditional pit loom.
Tanchoi is one of the most refined Banarasi traditions — pattern is carried entirely by warp and weft, with no extra weft floats, so the back of the drape reads almost as cleanly as the front. The luxury lies in the density of motif packing: the loom advances slowly, and the resham and zari arrive together, motif by motif, until the surface reads as one continuous composition.
Styling Note
Drapes beautifully Nivi-style with the pallu pleated narrow so the butterfly scatter reads in flight. Pair with delicate gold or polki and a tonal lilac or ivory raw-silk blouse.

Caring for Your Handloom
A handloom saree is not just worn — it is preserved, rested, and cared for over time.
After wearing, allow the saree to settle gently. Dry clean only, so the weave, colour, and zari remain protected. When storing, wrap it in a soft muslin cloth and keep it in a dry place. Zari is delicate and responds to changes in weather; the muslin helps the textile breathe while keeping the weave stable.
Avoid spraying perfume directly onto the saree, as fragrance and alcohol can affect the fabric and zari. Every few months, open it out and let it air naturally for a while — a small ritual that allows the weave to breathe and helps the saree stay beautiful for years.
