A bright-red Banarasi saree with a deep-blue Kadiyal border, drawn over with Sona Rupa motifs that play gold against silver across the body. The motifs, anchal and border are all woven in zari — the Kadiyal border setting a clear colour change at the edges and the anchal carrying the same gold-and-silver alternation. Handwoven in Varanasi on a traditional pit loom.
Kadiyal is the Banarasi technique of weaving two ground colours and a separate border colour in a single piece, joining them at the selvedge by interlocked weft — an old, slow technique that no shortcut can replicate. Combined with Sona Rupa zari, it gives the saree its layered, jewel-toned reading without any of it being printed or appliquéd.
Styling Note
A Nivi drape with the anchal pleated short lets the Kadiyal border carry. Pair with polki or kundan jewellery and a deep-red or contrasting royal-blue raw-silk blouse.

Caring for Your Handloom
A handloom saree is not just worn — it is preserved, rested, and cared for over time.
After wearing, allow the saree to settle gently. Dry clean only, so the weave, colour, and zari remain protected. When storing, wrap it in a soft muslin cloth and keep it in a dry place. Zari is delicate and responds to changes in weather; the muslin helps the textile breathe while keeping the weave stable.
Avoid spraying perfume directly onto the saree, as fragrance and alcohol can affect the fabric and zari. Every few months, open it out and let it air naturally for a while — a small ritual that allows the weave to breathe and helps the saree stay beautiful for years.
