A handwoven Banarasi Katan silk saree in deep purple, drawn over with Kadhua butti enamelled in Meenadar — each motif laid in coloured silk alongside zari. The motifs, anchal and border are all woven in zari — the border carries the same meenadar language, and the aanchal closes the composition with an anchor motif in keeping with the body. Handwoven in Varanasi on a traditional pit loom.
The weight of a Meenadar Kadhua lies in its restraint — every motif is set into the cloth thread by thread, and the coloured silks are introduced pick by pick alongside the zari. Nothing is added after the loom; the colour belongs to the weave itself. That refusal to take shortcuts is what makes Meenadar Kadhua one of the most patient Banarasi traditions.
Styling Note
Drape Nivi-style with the pallu pleated wide so the meenadar work catches the light. Pair with kundan or polki — the coloured silks answer coloured stones beautifully — and a tonal aubergine or contrast emerald blouse to anchor the purple.

Caring for Your Handloom
A handloom saree is not just worn — it is preserved, rested, and cared for over time.
After wearing, allow the saree to settle gently. Dry clean only, so the weave, colour, and zari remain protected. When storing, wrap it in a soft muslin cloth and keep it in a dry place. Zari is delicate and responds to changes in weather; the muslin helps the textile breathe while keeping the weave stable.
Avoid spraying perfume directly onto the saree, as fragrance and alcohol can affect the fabric and zari. Every few months, open it out and let it air naturally for a while — a small ritual that allows the weave to breathe and helps the saree stay beautiful for years.
