A handwoven Banarasi Munga silk dupatta in soft pista green, with Kadhua motifs enamelled in Meenadar — coloured silk meenakari laid alongside zari across the body. The motifs, anchal and border are all woven in zari — an intricate Banarasi border frames the drape on every edge. Handwoven in Varanasi on a traditional pit loom.

Munga silk gives Banarasi a natural, deep-gold lustre that no dyed silk can replicate — the yarn itself carries the glow. Layered with Kadhua and Meenadar, the gold body holds enamelled motifs built thread by thread in the loom. The luxury of Munga Meenadar is the cumulative skill: yarn, technique and colour all introduced motif by motif.

Styling Note

Drape over a contrast suit, kurta or lehenga set, with the pallu allowed to fall along the front so the meenadar work reads. Pair with antique-gold or polki and a tonal pista or contrast ivory base layer.

Caring for Your Handloom

A handloom dupatta is not just worn — it is preserved, rested, and cared for over time.

After wearing, allow the dupatta to settle gently. Dry clean only, so the weave, colour, and zari remain protected. When storing, wrap it in a soft muslin cloth and keep it in a dry place. Zari is delicate and responds to changes in weather; the muslin helps the textile breathe while keeping the weave stable.

Avoid spraying perfume directly onto the dupatta, as fragrance and alcohol can affect the fabric and zari. Every few months, open it out and let it air naturally for a while — a small ritual that allows the weave to breathe and helps the dupatta stay beautiful for years.
