A handwoven Banarasi thaan in baby pink, the running length drawn with thread-by-thread Kadhua motifs across the cloth, each butti held in even placement. The motifs are all woven in zari, the soft pink ground letting the gold work read clearly across the metre. Handwoven in Varanasi on a traditional pit loom.

Whether it becomes a blouse or a kurta or a lehenga panel, the patience that went into the metre stays with it. Each butti is woven into the cloth thread by thread — no shortcuts, no after-work. That is what makes a Banarasi length read like a heritage textile, even before it is tailored.

Styling Note

Tailor as a fitted blouse, a kurta body, or a structured choli panel. Style the finished piece with antique-gold or kundan — the baby pink reads especially well against ivory, old gold and deep burgundy.

Caring for Your Handloom

A handloom thaan is not just worn — it is preserved, rested, and cared for over time.

After wearing, allow the thaan to settle gently. Dry clean only, so the weave, colour, and zari remain protected. When storing, wrap it in a soft muslin cloth and keep it in a dry place. Zari is delicate and responds to changes in weather; the muslin helps the textile breathe while keeping the weave stable.

Avoid spraying perfume directly onto the thaan, as fragrance and alcohol can affect the fabric and zari. Every few months, open it out and let it air naturally for a while — a small ritual that allows the weave to breathe and helps the thaan stay beautiful for years.

Before you decide

Three things we would tell you across the table.

१

Woven once, never repeated

Every saree here is a single piece off a handloom in Banaras. Small irregularities in the weave are the weaver’s hand, not a flaw — and the reason no two are the same.
