In a refined deep maroon with green undertones palette, this Banarasi Pure Katan Silk saree carries a dense satin-ground Tanchoi field of butterfly motifs in resham. The motifs, anchal and border are all woven in zari — the wide border traces the drape on every edge with measured precision. Handwoven in Varanasi on a traditional pit loom.
Tanchoi is among the most demanding of the Banarasi satin weaves: the motifs are formed within the body of the cloth itself, not added to it, which means the design must be planned long before the loom is set. A Tanchoi field carries far more picks per inch than a flat weave, and that density is what gives the textile its peculiar depth — a soft, almost lit-from-within ground.
Styling Note
A Nivi drape carries this composition best — the pallu placed long over the shoulder so the border reads in full down the front. Pair with antique gold or temple jewellery to echo the zari, and a matching maroon raw silk or contrast bottle green tissue blouse to keep the focus on the weave.

Caring for Your Handloom
A handloom saree is not just worn — it is preserved, rested, and cared for over time.
After wearing, allow the saree to settle gently. Dry clean only, so the weave, colour, and zari remain protected. When storing, wrap it in a soft muslin cloth and keep it in a dry place. Zari is delicate and responds to changes in weather; the muslin helps the textile breathe while keeping the weave stable.
Avoid spraying perfume directly onto the saree, as fragrance and alcohol can affect the fabric and zari. Every few months, open it out and let it air naturally for a while — a small ritual that allows the weave to breathe and helps the saree stay beautiful for years.
