An ivory-white Banarasi Katan silk saree in shwetambri matsya buti — fine fish-form motifs scattered across the body, each butti woven in zari. The motifs, anchal and border are all woven in zari, with the anchal carrying a denser concentration of the same buti. Handwoven in Varanasi on a traditional pit loom.
Banarasi weaving rewards patience above all else. In Kadhua, the motif is not added — it is grown into the fabric, butti by butti, weft by weft. A piece like this carries the rhythm of the weaver's hand, which is precisely why the textile reads as heirloom even before it has been worn.
The drape carries a second weave: Ektara. Where the Kadhua gives the piece its precision, Ektara gives it its hand — softer, flowier, with a deeper gloss and an easier hand to drape.
Styling Note
This saree drapes beautifully in the Nivi style, the anchal falling cleanly to lead the eye. Pair with polki or pearl jewellery — the zari work reads best against warm metal tones. A ivory or champagne raw silk blouse keeps the focus on the weave; a contrast blouse in a deeper tone of the border colour works equally well.

Caring for Your Handloom
A handloom saree is not just worn — it is preserved, rested, and cared for over time.
After wearing, allow the saree to settle gently. Dry clean only, so the weave, colour, and zari remain protected. When storing, wrap it in a soft muslin cloth and keep it in a dry place. Zari is delicate and responds to changes in weather; the muslin helps the textile breathe while keeping the weave stable.
Avoid spraying perfume directly onto the saree, as fragrance and alcohol can affect the fabric and zari. Every few months, open it out and let it air naturally for a while — a small ritual that allows the weave to breathe and helps the saree stay beautiful for years.
