A royal blue Banarasi saree in pure silk, carrying a Shikargah composition of figures, vines and florals laid across the body in continuous Jangla rhythm. The motifs, anchal and border are all woven in zari — the border runs the length of the drape with a steady, unbroken rhythm. Handwoven in Varanasi on a traditional pit loom.
Weaving a Jangla is a study in restraint: the loom must hold a continuous floral rhythm across the entire body of the cloth, with no breaks where the cartoon repeats. That kind of continuity is hand-counted across thousands of picks, and the patience it asks of the loomsman is precisely why a true Jangla is read as one of the most luxurious Banarasi compositions.
Styling Note
A Nivi drape carries this composition best — the pallu placed long over the shoulder so the border reads in full down the front. Pair with polki, kundan or antique gold jewellery to echo the zari, and a matching royal blue raw silk or contrast antique-gold tissue blouse to keep the focus on the weave.

Caring for Your Handloom
A handloom saree is not just worn — it is preserved, rested, and cared for over time.
After wearing, allow the saree to settle gently. Dry clean only, so the weave, colour, and zari remain protected. When storing, wrap it in a soft muslin cloth and keep it in a dry place. Zari is delicate and responds to changes in weather; the muslin helps the textile breathe while keeping the weave stable.
Avoid spraying perfume directly onto the saree, as fragrance and alcohol can affect the fabric and zari. Every few months, open it out and let it air naturally for a while — a small ritual that allows the weave to breathe and helps the saree stay beautiful for years.
