A handwoven Satin silk Banarasi saree in pista green and pink, with thread-by-thread motifs drawn over the body and a contrast pallu carrying the pink across the anchal. The motifs, anchal and border are all woven in zari — the wide border frames the drape along both selvedges. Handwoven in Varanasi on a traditional pit loom.
Satin silk gives the drape a smooth-faced ground that catches light low and steady — the perfect floor for a two-tone composition. Kadhua placement on a satin face is exacting work; each butti has to be anchored cleanly so the surface stays flat, which is why pieces like this take far longer at the loom than they read.
Styling Note
Drape in the Nivi style, with the pink pallu spread open to balance the green of the body. Style with antique-gold jhumkis or chand bali, and a tonal pista or pink silk blouse — both work; the choice depends on whether you want to anchor the body or the pallu.

Caring for Your Handloom
A handloom saree is not just worn — it is preserved, rested, and cared for over time.
After wearing, allow the saree to settle gently. Dry clean only, so the weave, colour, and zari remain protected. When storing, wrap it in a soft muslin cloth and keep it in a dry place. Zari is delicate and responds to changes in weather; the muslin helps the textile breathe while keeping the weave stable.
Avoid spraying perfume directly onto the saree, as fragrance and alcohol can affect the fabric and zari. Every few months, open it out and let it air naturally for a while — a small ritual that allows the weave to breathe and helps the saree stay beautiful for years.
