Ivory Pure Wool & Silk Handloom Banarasi Shawl
A handwoven Banarasi shawl in ivory, with densely packed Tanchoi motifs setting the rhythm of the body, woven in a Katan silk warp and wool weft. The motifs, anchal and border are all woven in zari, the wool giving the drape its warmth while the silk holds the surface lustre. Handwoven in Varanasi on a traditional pit loom.
A silk-and-wool Banarasi sits in a category of its own: the Katan warp holds the precision of the motifs, while the wool weft lends the textile its weight and warmth. Tanchoi on this ground reads especially clean, with the back of the shawl staying almost as finished as the front.
Styling Note
Throw the shawl over a saree drape, a kurta or a structured coat — the weight allows it to hold its line. Style with antique-gold studs or a single statement piece; the Tanchoi field carries enough detail on its own. The ivory ground pairs particularly well with deeper-toned outfits beneath.

Caring for Your Handloom
A handloom shawl is not just worn — it is preserved, rested, and cared for over time.
After wearing, allow the shawl to settle gently. Dry clean only, so the weave, colour, and zari remain protected. When storing, wrap it in a soft muslin cloth and keep it in a dry place. Zari is delicate and responds to changes in weather; the muslin helps the textile breathe while keeping the weave stable.
Avoid spraying perfume directly onto the shawl, as fragrance and alcohol can affect the fabric and zari. Every few months, open it out and let it air naturally for a while — a small ritual that allows the weave to breathe and helps the shawl stay beautiful for years.
