Mustard Pure Katan Silk Handloom Banarasi Thaan
A handwoven Banarasi thaan in mustard, the running cloth carrying thread-by-thread Kadhua motifs across its field, each butti placed evenly down the length. The motifs are all woven in zari, the gold tone catching light across the warm mustard ground. Handwoven in Varanasi on a traditional pit loom.
A Banarasi thaan is rare for a simple reason: the weaver does not skip the discipline because it is a length rather than a garment. Each motif is still woven into the cloth thread by thread, every butti carrying its own weft. The metre carries the same loom hours as a saree would, scaled to its size.
Styling Note
Tailor as a kurta, a fitted blouse, a sherwani panel or a structured lehenga blouse. Style the finished piece with antique-gold or kundan jewellery — the mustard reads especially well against ivory and old gold.

Caring for Your Handloom
A handloom thaan is not just worn — it is preserved, rested, and cared for over time.
After wearing, allow the thaan to settle gently. Dry clean only, so the weave, colour, and zari remain protected. When storing, wrap it in a soft muslin cloth and keep it in a dry place. Zari is delicate and responds to changes in weather; the muslin helps the textile breathe while keeping the weave stable.
Avoid spraying perfume directly onto the thaan, as fragrance and alcohol can affect the fabric and zari. Every few months, open it out and let it air naturally for a while — a small ritual that allows the weave to breathe and helps the thaan stay beautiful for years.
