Red Tanchoi Pure Katan Silk Handloom Banarasi Thaan
A handwoven Katan silk Banarasi thaan in a refined red, carrying densely packed Tanchoi motifs across the full width of the cloth. The motifs, anchal and border are all woven in zari — the Tanchoi composition carried entirely by warp and weft with no extra floats at the back. Handwoven in Varanasi on a traditional pit loom.
Tanchoi is the satin-faced Banarasi technique celebrated for its smooth ground and its discipline at the back of the cloth: the pattern is carried by the warp and weft themselves, with no extra weft floats. A true Tanchoi is almost as clean on the reverse as on the surface, and that economy of thread is precisely what makes it a specialist weave.
Styling Note
Best used as a length of cloth — a blouse, a sherwani panel, a panelled lehenga or a stitched kurta. Pair the finished piece with antique-gold jewellery and tonal accessories to keep the Tanchoi forward.

Caring for Your Handloom
A handloom thaan is not just worn — it is preserved, rested, and cared for over time.
After wearing, allow the thaan to settle gently. Dry clean only, so the weave, colour, and zari remain protected. When storing, wrap it in a soft muslin cloth and keep it in a dry place. Zari is delicate and responds to changes in weather; the muslin helps the textile breathe while keeping the weave stable.
Avoid spraying perfume directly onto the thaan, as fragrance and alcohol can affect the fabric and zari. Every few months, open it out and let it air naturally for a while — a small ritual that allows the weave to breathe and helps the thaan stay beautiful for years.
